Born in Luxembourg in 1985, Cathy Krier started playing the piano at the Luxembourg School of Music as a five-year-old.
In 1999 she was admitted to Pavel Gililov’s virtuoso class at the Cologne School of Music. The following year she recorded Beethoven’s Concerto in G major with the Latvian Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra conducted by Carlo Jans. Since then she has been the laureate of various competitions and the recipient of scholarships like the Prix Norbert Stelmes awarded by the Jeunesses Musicales du Luxembourg in 2003 or the IKB International Prize in 2004. Both prizes reward outstanding young talent.
In 2005 she joined Cyprien Katsaris to play Clara Schumann’s four-hand version of Robert Schumann’s piano quintet at the opening of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Hall. In 2006 she was selected by Robert Levin to perform at the Klavier Festival Ruhr. She also attended masterclasses with Dominique Merlet and Andrea Lucchesini, whose classes she is currently attending at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. She has further been invited to participate at the Académie musicale de Villecroze.
She has given recitals on the Millenium Stage at the Kennedy Center in Washington, at the Rolduc Abbey in Kerkrade at the invitation of the Euriade Foundation. In Germany she has been a guest performer at the Rhineland Sommerclassics Festival, PianoPlus at the Collegium Leoninum in Bonn. Other venues were the K20K21 Ständehaus in Düsseldorf, the Nordrhein Arztekammer, Haus Rhodehorst and the Maison du Luxembourg in Berlin. In 2007 she performed at the official opening of the Cultural Year in Luxembourg. She also appears on a regular basis at the Festival International d’Echternach, the Bourglinster Festival and Musek am Syrdall. Further concert engagements have taken her to Austria, Spain, Andorra, Italy, France and Belgium.
She has moreover had the opportunity to perform as soloist with the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Solistes Européens du Luxembourg, the Luxembourg Chamber Orchestra, the Musiciens, l’Estro Armonico, the Latvian Chamber Orchestra conducted by Jack Martin Händler, Bramwell Tovey, Garry Walker, Pierre Cao and Yoon K. Lee.
Cathy Krier has received unmitigated international acclaim for the emotional subtlety and maturity of her playing.
